The Alokabodhi Buddhist Group, previously known as the Maidstone Buddhist Group, has been meeting regularly for about 30 years.
The group essentially practices Theravada Buddhism and receives regular support and visits from Sangha members of the Amaravati and Chithurst monasteries of the Thai Forest Tradition.
Our purpose is to provide an opportunity for anyone interested in developing meditation and mindfulness practice within a supportive group of like-minded friends. Meetings usually include group meditation with readings or recorded talks followed by discussion. We provide a forum for learning and sharing our experiences of integrating the Buddha's teachings into our everyday life.
We regularly visit monasteries, other Buddhist venues and events together with providing information on attending Buddhist retreats. Our weekly meetings are held in the beautiful function room at:
The Blackthorn Trust Medical Centre, St Andrew’s Road, Barming, Maidstone.
In the spirit of the tradition, the Teachings are considered priceless; hence, there is no membership charge or fee for attending the meetings. However, as donations are necessary to enable meetings to continue, friends are invited to contribute according to their circumstances. Donations are accepted at the meeting's or by setting up a standing order, for further details see the donations page. Please do come and join us, you will be most welcome!
Our meetings are held at 7.30 p.m. every Tuesday (except August). For more information, please look at the Events page or the Upcoming Events section of the sidebar. Alternatively contact:
